Local Area Information
Our house is located off I-91 Coming from the south exit 6(Chester/Ludlow), and from the north exit 7(Springfield). From both directions we are about 10 minutes from the highway. Surprisingly however, we are in a very quiet location on Brockway Mills Rd. We are 30 minutes south-east of Okemo Mountain Resort, 30 minutes south of Ascutney, 45 minutes from Bromley, and about an hour from Killington.
There is a nice boat launch on the Connecticut River, 10 minutes away. The Brockway Mills Gorge at the end of the road is a beautiful place to take a dip or go fishing. The Green Mountain Flyer crosses the gorge twice day while offering its' train tour from Bellows Falls to Chester Depot. Visit the Wellwood Orchards, located in North Springfield during the fall season for fresh apples, apple picking, cider, cider doughnuts, pumpkins and pies. They kids will love the hayrides and the petting zoo. Stop in Woodstock for great boutiques and food in a historic town.
Right down the road on Route 103, find the Vermont Country Store, a great place to pick up unique, practical and fun country items for the home, old fasion toys, soaps, jams, cheese, fudge, maple syrup. They have a great candy by the pound section that is fun for kids and nostalgic for parents.
Across the river, in Charlestown New Hampshire, don't miss an opportunity to see the countryside from above. Take a tandem hang gliding flight with Steve at Morningside Flight Park. Not so daring? Head over on a nice day and just watch the action.
Mount Ascutney State Park offers great hiking, or ascend the alpine road by car, to the summit 3000 feet high with a look out tower that offers a 360 degree view of the entire tri-state area.
Putney is just south of Bellows falls. Putney has a great Co-Op, Basketville, Curtis's BBQ and of course, Santa's Land which is open all summer long.
We keep a welcome packet at the lodge containing a list of great restuarants and directions to local grocers and everything else you might need.
